ReviewReview vol.2 《 Private and Public Space 私的空間と公的空間 》

Twentieth-century art schools like the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College inextricably linked theory and art practice, providing a fertile ground that nurtured the highly original expressions of artists such as Josef Albers and Robert Rauschenberg. Channeling this tradition of cross-disciplinary exchange, SUCHSIZE is launching "ReviewReview," a program designed to offer new interpretations for the creation and appreciation of art.
This program attempts to re-translate core keywords from past SUCHSIZE exhibitions through lenses such as philosophy and psychiatry. Operating as a post-exhibition study, it aims to uncover the practical applicability and social significance of the themes embodied in the exhibitions.
For the 2026 edition, we welcome philosophy researcher Taiyo Wada alongside three guest philosophers. By re-examining the keywords through perspectives of contemporary philosophy, we aim to provide artists, viewers, and the public with vital 'tools for thought' and practical insights.
Our second session focuses on the theme of “Private and Public Space,” taking the Autumn 2025 exhibition ‘Tender Recalls / Prospective Futures’ as its starting point. The exhibition aimed to create a space where individual and family memories evolve into collective ones through dialogue and shared experience. How can an exhibition that intertwines personal narratives within a public space reshape the fabric of a multicultural society and influence our behavior?
To explore the concept of an exhibition as a “crossing point between the private and the public,” we welcome philosophy researcher Heechul Ju. Through a philosophical lens, we will examine what happens when we bring personal narratives into public spaces, as well as when we introduce public justice into the private sphere. This session provides an occasion to reconsider how we, with all our diverse private lives, can meaningfully coexist.

朱喜哲 | ちゅ・ひちょる | Ju Heechul
1985年大阪府生まれ。大阪大学大学院文学研究科博士後期課程修了。博士（文学）。大阪大学社会技術共創研究センター招へい准教授。専門はプラグマティズム言語哲学とその思想史。著書に『人類の会話のための哲学』（よはく舎）、『〈公正〉を乗りこなす』（太郎次郎社エディタス）、『バザールとクラブ』（よはく舎）、『バラバラな世界で共に生きる』（ＮＨＫ出版新書）などがある。 Born in Osaka in 1985. He received his Ph.D. in Literature from the Graduate School of Letters at Osaka University, where he currently serves as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Research Center on Ethical, Legal and Social Issues. He specializes in the philosophy of language within pragmatism and its intellectual history. His publications include Philosophy for the Conversation of Mankind: Rorty and Pragmatism in 21st Century (Yohakusha), Navigating “Fairness” (Tarojirosha Editas), Bazaar and Club (Yohakusha), and Living Together in a Fragmented World (NHK Publishing Shinsho).
Yukawa-Nakayasu | ゆかわなかやす
アーティスト / TRA-TRAVEL共同創業者 / SUCHSIZEディレクター。 大阪を拠点に国内外の歴史や習俗、習慣をもとに、社会や身体、日常に内在する営為を視覚化する作品を発表し続けている。2019年には「TRA-TRAVEL」を立ち上げ、国際的なアートネットワークを創造するプロジェクトを企画。また2024年からは、SUCHSIZEをオープンし、展覧会やトークイベントをキュレーションする。 Based in Osaka, Yukawa-Nakayasu continuously presents artworks that visualize the activities inherent in society, the body, and daily life, drawing upon history, customs, and traditions both in Japan and abroad. In 2019, he launched TRA-TRAVEL, planning projects aimed at creating an international art network. In 2024, he opened the art lab "SUCHSIZE" in Osaka, where he curates exhibitions and talk events to explore how contemporary art can engage with society and local communities.
和田太洋 | Taiyo Wada
ホノルル生まれ。アメリカ哲学を基盤に、知覚における予測作用の働きを研究している。関西を中心に、展覧会やパフォーマンスのレビュー執筆、アートイベントでの通訳を行う。主な論考に「身体と信頼」（『SPIN-OFF』、2024年）、「清掃の手法と排他性」（KIKA cas note、2024年）などがある。 Taiyo Wada Born in Honolulu, Wada is a researcher of American philosophy focusing on the role of prediction in communication. Based in the Kansai region, he writes exhibition and performance reviews, as well as providing interpretation and translation for art events. His essays include “Body and Trust” (SPIN-OFF, 2024) and “Cleaning Methodology and Exclusivity” (KIKA cas note, 2024).
