ReviewReview vol.1 《 Identity and Transformation 同一性と変化 》
Hiroshi Ohata × Reiko Kinoshita × Taiyo Wada TALK
Twentieth-century art schools like the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College inextricably linked theory and art practice, providing a fertile ground that nurtured the highly original expressions of artists such as Josef Albers and Robert Rauschenberg. Channeling this tradition of cross-disciplinary exchange, SUCHSIZE is launching "ReviewReview," a program designed to offer new interpretations for the creation and appreciation of art.
This program attempts to re-translate core keywords from past SUCHSIZE exhibitions through lenses such as philosophy and psychiatry. Operating as a post-exhibition study, it aims to uncover the practical applicability and social significance of the themes embodied in the exhibitions.
For the 2026 edition, we welcome philosophy researcher Taiyo Wada alongside three guest philosophers. By re-examining the keywords through perspectives of contemporary philosophy, we aim to provide artists, viewers, and the public with vital 'tools for thought' and practical insights.
Our first session will focus on the work of Reiko Kinoshita from the Winter 2025 exhibition ‘unnamed hours,’ centering on a talk titled "Identity and Change." As the photosensitive coating on its surface reacts to sunlight, Kinoshita's Sunshine Duration changes its appearance over the course of the exhibition. This characteristic of the artwork poses an important question: on what grounds do we identify a changing object as remaining “the same”?
To explore these concepts further, we will be joined by philosophy researcher Hiroshi Ohata. The discussion also offers insights into the question of whether we ourselves remain a constant "self" over time. In a modern world where we must constantly adapt to rapid changes, this session offers an opportunity to re-consider the consistency of our own existence.

An Approach Based on Thisness Bundle Theory" (Journal of the Japan Association for Philosophy of Science, Vol. 51, 2024) and "On the Compulsion of 'Having No Choice But to Consider Them the Same'" (Hiroki Azuma 25 Years Later, Dokushojin, 2024). Reiko Kinoshita | 木下令子
Reiko Kinoshita Kinoshita graduated from Musashino Art University Graduate School, Department of Painting, Fine Arts Course in 2009. Centered on the question, “Can the passage of fleeting time be captured in painting?”, Kinoshita explores images that are not rendered by direct hand-drawing, incorporating phenomena such as sunburn, photosensitivity, and movement. Eschewing the use of brushes, her technique intentionally embraces the natural folds and textures of paper or fabric while applying acrylic paint in a mist-like form using a spray gun. In some works, the canvas continues to transform even after completion as it reacts to its environment̶an approach through which she endeavors to engage with elusive phenomena and realities. https://reikokinoshita.tumblr.com/
