By casting everyday objects into elaborate "molds," Nobuaki Onishi re-establishes the very existence of things. In a modern age saturated with information and where every phenomenon is veiled by symbols, this process deconstructs the preconceived notion of a "familiar world". Onishi’s works are manual reproductions of mass-produced daily necessities, achieved through the meticulous use of resin and paint. The contrast between the elaborate coloring and the transparency of the exposed resin unsettles our existing perception of these objects. The venue features a lightbulb work that incorporates a waterfall as borrowed scenery, alongside familiar objects situated throughout the plaza. While many of these appear to resemble the items sold at CRYSTA Nagahori, as you gaze into the transparent resin, the landscape before you inverts, revealing a scene that re-mirrors reality—like a waterfall flowing backward. Through this work, we hope to "re-mirror" a reality that has been conventionalized and pushed into the subconscious.
