Artist Talk『 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙋𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝘀 〜絵画のこと〜』

「木枠にキャンバスを貼り、その上に絵を描く」というシンプルな所作にもかかわらず、なぜ角鹿万梨子の絵画は、これほどまでに展示空間、すなわち絵画の外側へ働きかけるのでしょうか。時にはキャンバスの側面を壁面と同色に描き、またキャンバスに厚みを持たせ、複数枚のキャンバスを一つの絵画として提示する――これらの構造的アプローチが、私たちの絵画に対する認識を一層拡張させます。

本トークでは、愛知県立芸術大学を卒業後、ドイツで10年以上絵画を学んできた作家の視点から辿る絵画制作の軌跡に迫ります。キャンバスの枠を超えた可能性を探究し、新たな空間対話を実現してきた彼女のアプローチ。この絵画の潜在力が引き出される過程とその発想の原点に光を当てます。

さらに、トーク後にはアートマネジャーの柏本奈津さんによるフードケータリングもご用意しており、角鹿さんや鑑賞者の皆様との対話のひとときを楽しみます。ぜひお気軽にご参加ください。

Despite the simple act of affixing canvas to a wooden frame and then painting upon it, why do Mariko Tsunoka’s paintings exert such a profound impact on the exhibition space—that is, beyond the confines of the painting itself? At times, the sides of the canvas are painted in the same color as the wall, additional thickness is applied to the canvas, and multiple canvases are presented as one artwork—these structural approaches further broaden our perception of painting.

In this talk, we will trace the trajectory of painting from the perspective of the artist who, after graduating from Aichi University of the Arts, studied painting in Germany for over a decade. We will shed light on her approach that explores the possibilities beyond the canvas frame and realizes new spatial dialogues, as well as the process by which the latent potential of her paintings is drawn out and the origins of her creative impulse revealed.

Furthermore, following the talk, food catering provided by art manager Natsu Kashiwamoto will be available, offering you the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Tsunoka and fellow audience members. Please feel free to join us.

Mariko Tsunoka | 角鹿万梨子  (b. 1985, Aichi, Japan)

Tsunoka graduated from the Fine Arts department at the Aichi University of the Arts in 2008. Tsunoka moved to Germany in 2009 and graduated from her MA in Fine Arts/Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Nuremberg, under Prof. Susanne Kühn, in 2016. From 2014 to 2015 she studied as an exchange student at the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna with an Erasmus scholarship. Tsunoka experiments with the structure of painting by engaging with themes of two- and three-dimensionality, as well as spatial perception. A catalogue of her works, compiled as  ‘Mariko Tsunoka’ was published in 2019. Significant exhibitions include: ‘o.T.’ (GalleryN Kanda, Tokyo, Japan, 2024); ‘Try to be more stupid’ (Forum Kunst Rottweil, Rottweil, Germany, 2021); ‘Raum für Raum - Junge Künstler*innen aus der Metropolregion’ (Kunstmuseum Erlangen, Erlangen, Germany, 2021), among others.

2008年愛知県立芸術大学を卒業、2009年に渡独、2016年にニュルンベルク造形美術アカデミー卒業、Prof.Susanne Kühnの元でマイスターシューラー称号取得。2014年〜2015年ウィーン造形美術アカデミーにErasmus奨学金を得て交換留学。絵画の構造、主に絵画の二次元性と三次元性、空間をテーマに実験的に制作。2019年に作品集「MARIKO TSUNOKA」を刊行。近年の主な展覧会2024年「o.T.」（GalleryN神田社宅、東京）、2021年「TRY TO BE MORE STUPID」 Forum Kunst Rottweil(ロットヴァイル・ドイツ）、「Raum für Raum -JUNGE KÜNSTLER*INNEN AUS DER METROPOLREGION-」Kunstmuseum Erlangen （エアランゲン・ドイツ）などがある。
